“If anyone forces you to go one mile, go with them two miles.” -Matthew 5:41
I love the word “and.” You never know what you are going to get with that word. It could be something great or it could be the most disastrous thing ever, but either way, “and” packs a punch.
If you want to see just how powerful “and” can be, approach your children or students you know and say this: “Hey kids, we are going out for pizza and . . . and . . . and . . .” They will begin to pour out all kinds of options: “Are we going out for a movie, too? Are we going bowling, too And what??? Come on, tell us!” If you say, “And a movie with all of your friends” or “And Disneyland!” you may find yourself getting an award for Man or Woman of the Year. However, if you say, “and a car wash!” you’re going to have some unhappy campers on your hands. Furthermore, the longer you wait and let them dream about what may follow that powerful little “and,” the better it has to be!
Put the power of “and” to work today. Right now, think of a way that you can use the word “and” to go the extra mile for someone. Could you do a report and . . .? Could you do the dishes and . . .? Could you call a disgruntled customer, send them a gift certificate to apologize for the inconvenience and…?
